What's the closest airport to La Ventana?
La Paz International Airport (LAP, Manuel Márquez de León International) is the closest airport. Plan on about 45 minutes by car or taxi from La Paz to La Ventana.
Can I fly into Cabo (SJD) instead?
Yes. San José del Cabo / Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) is usually about a 2-hour drive to La Ventana. It can make sense when the flight times or fares are much better, but La Paz is the simpler arrival.
How do I get from the airport to La Ventana?
Three options: taxi, arrange a shuttle through us (let us know your flight number), or rent a car at the airport. From La Paz, plan on about 45 minutes. We recommend renting if you want to do day trips. Otherwise taxi or shuttle is fine — you don't need a car to live in town.
Is there a public bus?
There is bus service between La Paz and the El Sargento / La Ventana area, but schedules and luggage handling can be inconvenient for travelers. Most guests use a taxi, shuttle, or rental car.
Should I rent a car?
If you're staying more than a week and want to do day trips, yes. If you're here for the beach, kite season, or the hostel/town rhythm, you can get by without one and use taxis or local rides when needed.
Can you arrange airport pickup?
Yes — message us with your flight number at least 48 hours before arrival and we'll connect you with a trusted local driver. The price is similar to a regular taxi. Pay the driver directly in cash (USD or pesos).
Should I bring pesos cash?
Bring some cash for the taxi and your first day. Pesos are easiest locally, and in-town ATMs can run dry during high season. Cards work at the hostel and some restaurants, but not everywhere.
Is the road safe?
Yes. The La Paz–La Ventana road (Highway 286) is in good condition, well-marked, daylight-driving is uneventful. After dark there can be cattle on the road in the rural stretches — most travelers and the airport drivers avoid the route at night, which is why we recommend booking flights that land before sunset.
